What The Summit FCU Scholarship Meant to Me
Madelyn George was The Summit’s 2019 scholarship winner. Here are her thoughts on how the scholarship helped her at the University of Connecticut this year.
As time is quickly approaching for The Summit Federal Credit Union’s next scholarship winner to be announced, I reflect on why I believe The Summit chose me in 2019. In high school, I found myself getting involved in many groups and organizations outside of just simply academics.
I became very passionate about pouring my time into various community service opportunities and outreach programs. This focus on supporting others has undeniably shaped my character into who I am today and ultimately who I dream of becoming. I have always considered myself to be a very engaged and involved person, whether it be sports, academics, music or community service. I constantly found myself doing something and not having as much down time as other students.
It had always been a dream of mine to play Division I lacrosse and to attend The University of Connecticut. I knew that this goal was not out of reach, but it would take a lot of hard work to get there.
After receiving my acceptance letter to UConn came the hard work of bridging the financial gap. As a senior in high school at Rush Henrietta, I vividly remember receiving the email congratulating me as a 2019 Summit FCU Scholarship recipient. I was so honored to be chosen and knew immediately that this scholarship would ultimately help me in my journey to reach my goals as a student athlete at a large University.
My first year as a college freshman is coming to an end, and I have had such a wonderful experience thus far. At first, adjusting to college was far from easy, but through my continuous effort to do everything to the best of my ability and always helping others to see the best version of themselves, I have created some pretty amazing memories with great people.
I am incredibly grateful for the chance that The Summit has given me to achieve my aspiration of attending my dream school. I genuinely hope the next recipient of this award can achieve their goals with the financial assistance. Based on my own personal experience, I am confident they will.
Congratulations in advance to this year’s 2020 recipient of The Summit FCU Scholarship!
