Syracuse University Hosts Inaugural Gaming and E-Sports Summer Camp

July 31, 2025

This innovative camp, sponsored by The Summit Federal Credit Union, brought kids up close to the e-sports and gaming industry.

Syracuse University’s landmark Gaming & Esports Summer Camp was a fun, hands-on experience designed for middle school and high school students who passionate about video games, teamwork, and creative exploration. Campers developed their skills through structured gameplay, friendly competitions, and engaging activities like game design, team challenges, and arts & crafts; all while learning about digital citizenship, communication, and the growing world of gaming and esports.

The first week of camp for 25 area middle school students kicked off on Monday, July 7th. 25 high school students attended the second week of camp, commencing on July 14th. Camps were held on campus at the university’s Schine Student Center.

Earlier this year, Syracuse University opened its Gaming & Esports Center which offers both student gaming opportunities, and first-of-its-kind academic programming with an esports communications and management degree program, offered jointly by the Newhouse School of Public Communications and the David B. Falk College of Sport.   The nearly 6,000 square foot facility located inside the Schine Student Center offers something for all members of the Syracuse University community during the school year and is the perfect location for summer programs which are accessible to area kids.

Support for this year’s camp comes from The Summit Federal Credit Union, a mainstay financial institution in Central New York. In addition to their monetary sponsorship, the credit union held financial literacy sessions for both middle school and high school campers.
