Hope in Uncertain Times

In these unprecedented times, it is critical that we continue to forge relationships with our scholars, parents/families and our community partners. We at East are proud to call The Summit Federal Credit Union one of our allies.

At a time when our scholars have questions, anxiety and uncertainty, The Summit/East collaboration has brought a bit of cheer and hope to a few of our students. The scholarship that The Summit provided to East Scholars presented an opportunity for our students to learn more about financial literacy and how scholarships work.

Our College 30 scholars (high school seniors who plan to attend a 2- or 4-year college/university) have been working for several months on college and scholarship applications. The scholarship that The Summit has provided will allow two of our brightest scholars, Bria Adams and Jaheim Jones, to receive funding to help support their collegiate studies. This financial support will help them to achieve the goals that they have set for themselves and their families.

“This scholarship will help me to further my education in the fall,” said Bria Adams, one of the two scholarship winners for 2020. “I plan on using it to invest in myself by paying a college deposit! Thank you everyone at The Summit for this opportunity.”

“Having respect for yourself will have others respecting you,” said Jaheem Jones, one of the scholarship’s winners. “I enjoyed writing this scholarship for The Summit Federal Credit Union and I hope my story can convince others to keep pushing in life.”

When seniors in high school are worried about being able to graduate during such a time of uncertainty, receiving this scholarship has served as a reminder that someone cares, and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. We are thankful for all of our partners, but we are especially appreciative of those like The Summit who give our scholars hope and a reason to smile.

Thank you to The Summit for giving our students Hope in Uncertain Times!
