Cortland Hosts “Stone Soup” Community Picnic

June 12, 2019

The Summit Federal Credit Union was honored to be part of Cortland’s community picnic earlier this month.

Coordinated by the Cortland Police Department’s Office of Community Policing, the family event had a theme of “Stone Soup,” a story about neighbors coming together, which perfectly underscored the event’s aim of uniting Cortland residents in kinship.

400 people sat together at long tables on Court Street to enjoy various types of soup, 100 gallons of which were donated by local restaurants. Several other local businesses and residents also contributed to the event, including The Summit, who sponsored the evening’s family movie. The Cortland Free Library read Marcia Brown’s Stone Soup and offered 100 free copies of the book. Stone painting and a “rock” band rounded out the evening.
